A young glass whale and five copper suckers must cross a hail of pebbles before the only warm air current above their dry sea fades.

The story
Above the invented dry sea, whales made of blown glass swim through warm air, but Mira has never survived a pebble rain. When the last updraft dies, five hand-plate-sized copper fish cling to her thinnest points and distribute each impact across their own bodies. Mira learns not to dodge every stone, but to turn her back, share her resonance, and catch the sixth torn helper mid-storm.
